Former gunner’s skipper and current Manchester City’s assistant coach Mikel Arteta had been named as the favourite to inherit the position.

On Monday evening, BBC’s David Ornstein confirmed the appointment.

Unai Emery,46, has won a Ligue Une trophy with PSG and three consecutive Europa league trophies with Seville between 2014 and 2016.

The Spaniard will be presented as Arsenal’s Manager later this week and he is expected to pick his assistant.
