This week, the much anticipated champions league matches resumed in action. Chelsea welcomed AS Roma at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. David Luiz strike gave Chelsea a lead in the eleventh minute before former Manchester city defender Alexander Kolarov  equalized for the visitors. Eden hazard combined well with the new striker Alvaro Morata to score the second goal to mark his first goal of the season.

Former Manchester city striker, Edin Dzeko equalized minutes after second half and scored the third goal at the sixty eight minute. Eden Hazard step up five minutes after Dzeko’s goal to score the third goal making the match to end in a tie.

Chelsea coach, Antonio Conte said,  “It was fair. It was a difficult game against a good team. Above all in the first half we suffered, our performance was good but for sure our football is different than today.

“When we changed in the second half the situation was changing. David Luiz had a little problem in his calf and in this moment I can’t risk my players, we are playing always the same players.”

Manchester United only goal from Marcus Rashford gave the Red Devils. The only goal of the game came after the long-range free-kick from Marcus caught the 18 year old Benfica goal keeper unawares.

“We were the team that was positive and we were always in control,” Manchester United boss Mourinho said. “I never felt that we could concede a goal, we were very solid defensively.

“Sometimes I feel that to be good defensively is a crime but it is not a crime. To be good defensively is one step to get results. We knew the Benfica pressure could not stay for 90 minutes.

“The amazing defensive work Liverpool did against us, Benfica could not do that for the whole game. Without any pressure, we knew the goal would arrive.”

On Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspurs pulled a stunning point when they faced Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Striker in form, Harry Kane was on the end of an inviting cross from Serge Aurier putting defender  Rhafael Varane under pressure prompting him to score an own goal on  twenty sixth minute. But the lead lasted for a short time with real Madrid restoring parity just two minutes to half time after Serge Aurier’s challenge let to penalty with Christiano Ronaldo scorig to equalize.

Liverpool FC were the big winners of the night as they managed to ship seven goals past Malibor. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah scored a two goals apiece, with Philippe Coutinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and  £35M signing Alex Oxlade Chamberlain opening his goal account in a Liverpool jersey

After the match, Klopp said, “The counter-pressing. I loved this,” he the official club website , “From the first second it was exactly what we wanted to do. We wanted to show the best counter-pressing of the last few weeks because I really thought that protecting our offensive movements, patterns and all that stuff were already really good against United but we could have done even better in counter-pressing.

“Tonight we did much better and against a football-playing side like Maribor, it made a lot of sense. We scored the first goal from a pressing situation and a few other goals were after a counter-pressing situation, so it helped a lot.”

Pep Guardiola’s team, Manchester city enjoyed the night as the beat Napoli 2-1 with Sterling continuing impressive scoring streak.

“Today we won against an incredible team and to do that you have to make an incredible performance. If we hadn’t played at a very high level, we wouldn’t have won that game,” said Guardiola.

“They are one of the best teams I have ever faced, which is why I am so proud. It was perfect. It is impossible to beat them if you don’t make a good performance, and we did it, which is why I am so happy.

“I know before the game and now I know again, I am pretty sure they are one of the best teams in Europe at this moment.”
